Natalie Portman said she didn’t even ask him to do it, but appreciated the gesture all the same
Chris Hemsworth made a small change to his life to accommodate Natalie Portman when they worked together, and the gesture is actually pretty sweet.
If you have had a good look at Chris Hemsworth in – well, the last decade – you would notice the guy is a pretty beefy guy.
To get such a physique, the Australian actor has said he regularly chows down on a meaty, protein-packed diet – but he decided to make a change just for a certain film.
As Hemsworth and Natalie Portman were starring in Thor: Love and Thunder in 2022, the Aussie decided to ditch meat for an entire day, because Portman is a vegan.
Portman became a vegetarian back when she was nine-years-old and has now been a vegan for more than 10 years. So you can understand why she might feel a touch uncomfortable with the kiss.
With that being said, while speaking on British radio show Capital Breakfast, the actress admitted she never requested Hemsworth to avoid meat before their kiss.
She said he just decided it for himself because he’s a ‘very nice person’.
Praising her thoughtful co-star, Portman said: “He’s really nice. The day we had a kiss scene, he didn’t eat meat that morning because I’m vegan.
“And he eats meat like every half hour. Like, that was so thoughtful. That’s not something I’m angry about or care about, but he was just being thoughtful. He’s just a very nice person.”
The sweet gesture came as a surprise to fellow Thor: Love and Thunder star Tessa Thompson, who added: “I didn’t even know he could go without eating meat. He’s [usually] just, like, eating bison in the morning. That’s so sweet.”
In an equally gushing interview, Hemsworth admitted to feeling in ‘awe’ of Portman’s presence and talent on set.
When asked what it was like seeing Portman in costume as The Mighty Thor for the first time, he told Variety: “A little stab to the ego, but I quickly got over it and I was in awe of everything she had done one and off the screen. I’m such a fan.”
In spite of her experience in the industry, the preparation needed for Thor: Love and Thunder was altogether different to anything she’d had to do before.
During a 2022 interview with Variety, Portman claimed she was asked ‘to get as big as possible’ for the movie.
“It was really fun,” she said. “I worked with a trainer, Naomi Pendergast, for, I think it was four months before shooting, and then obviously all the way through filming.
“We did a lot of weight training and a lot of protein shakes—heavyweight training that I haven’t ever done before.”
She added: “Of course, I’ve never really aimed to get bulky. It was very physical, so it was a lot of both agility work and also strength work.”
